Protecting Vulnerable People
This department deals with allegations of abuse towards some of society’s most vulnerable people.
These crimes are often very serious (ranging from attempted murder to harassment) against victims that are already vulnerable, due to age, disability or other circumstance.
The PVP Unit is managed by a Detective Superintendent who maintains responsibility for the oversight of all risk, related to Public Protection. The unit is split into three county investigation ‘hubs’, each led by a Detective Chief Inspector. Each hub is responsible for the management of the following within their geographical area:
- Child abuse investigation.
- Domestic Abuse.
- Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults.
- Missing Person.
- Serious Sexual Assaults.
- Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA).
The fourth DCI leads Forcewide specialist units including:
- Specialist Trained Officers - responding to victims of Rape and Serious Sexual Assault and ensuring victims have access to the Solace Centres for support and medical care.
- Protecting Vulnerable People Strategy Unit, keeping policies and procedures up-to-date, ensuring current best practice is followed.
