Police and Crime Commissioners

The Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) took up their role on 22 November 2012, and will replace the Thames Valley Police Authority. They will aim to cut crime and deliver an effective and efficient police service within their force area.

The PCC is responsible for:

  • Hiring, and if necessary firing, the Chief Constable
  • Setting the policing budget and level of council tax
  • Working in partnership across a range of agencies at local and national level to ensure there is a unified approach to preventing and reducing crime.

The PCC must not interfere with the operational independence of police officers. The role of the PCC is to be the voice of the people and hold the police to account.

For more information, visit the PCC website (opens new window), call (01865) 846780, or email the PCC.
