Nitesun search light system

The aircraft are each fitted with a powerful 30 million candlepower search light system known as ‘Nitesun’, controlled remotely from inside the aircraft or ‘slaved’ to the thermal image camera.

The beam can be adjusted to provide illumination over a wide area, for example to assist ground resources or illuminate an incident scene, variable down to a narrow ‘pencil’ beam to track people or vehicles. This can be useful as it allows the beam to act as a focal point for ground units if they are running after a suspect, for example.
