Secure your fertiliser
Farmers, growers, land-owners and farm staff can get advice on how to secure their fertiliser, from the National Counter Terrorism Security Office (NaCTSO).
For more specific information on this issue, visit the NaCTSO website (opens new window).
The website provides guidance on how to secure your fertiliser. This guidance can be applied throughout the fertiliser supply chain.
It is supported by all of the UK’s farmers’ unions, together with UK fertiliser manufacturers, importers and numerous trade associations representing grain, dairy, beef and sheep farming.
Why securing your fertiliser is important
- Fertilisers might be misused, as an ingredient in home made explosives. This includes inorganic nitrogenous, ammonium nitrate and ammonium nitrate-based fertilisers.
- Fertilisers have been used by terrorists, both in the UK and overseas, to manufacture powerful explosives which have then been used in improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
Thames Valley Police supports the Fertiliser Industry Assurance Scheme (FIAS), which is managed by the Agricultural Industries Confederation (AIC).
