Equality and diversity
Diversity is all about ‘difference’ and recognising that different people have equally valuable skills, experience and knowledge.
Thames Valley Police has a duty to eliminate discrimination within the Force, and to promote good relationships between officers, staff and the community. This is both a moral responsibility and a practical necessity, as understanding diversity has a direct impact on the quality of service the Force provides.
Thames Valley Police's Diversity Unit actively promotes diversity to the entire Force. We also have a Diversity Board which monitors progress in this area and a Diversity Executive Group to drive action on diversity issues.
Thames Valley Police is the first police force to sign up to be a supporting member of the ‘Face Equality at Work’ initiative, run by the Changing Faces charity.
Our Confidence and Equality Strategy (PDF 125 Kb - opens new window) sets out a vision of a policing service for Thames Valley which values and respects the diversity of our staff and of the communities that we serve. This Strategy is the overarching introduction to our Race, Disability and Gender Equality Schemes.
