Muslim Police Association

The Thames Valley Muslim Police Association (TVMPA) has been formed specifically to help and assist Muslim police officers and staff as well as providing support for the wider organisation.

Membership is free and open to everyone. Full membership is open to all Thames Valley Police employees who share and support the Association’s aims. Associate membership is open to non-Thames Valley Police employees who share and support the Association’s aims.

There are currently around 60 Muslim police officers in Thames Valley Police, but the TVMPA is open to all officers, not just Muslims.

TVMPA aims:

  • Assist the Force in establishing effective links with the Muslim community.
  • Enhance Neighbourhood Policing teams’ understanding of Muslim cultural practices.
  • Assist the Force in work with external partners such as voluntary organisations, youth services and government bodies.
  • Improve operational support following incidents of Islamaphobic crime.
  • Advise leaders on specific issues regarding the Muslim community.
  • Promote more trust in the Muslim community in reporting Islamaphobic crime.
  • Provide greater awareness of Islamic culture within Thames Valley Police.
  • Provide support and advice to leaders and staff.
  • Provide support to Muslim police officers and staff.
  • Utilise the skills and experience of Muslim staff to police Muslim communities.
  • Fully utilise Muslim staff as a resource, by increasing the accessibility of Muslim staff.
  • Seek to provide support for the Contest strategy.

The TVMPA is supported by the National Association of Muslim Police. The National Association of Muslim Police is a national staff support association for Muslim police officers, staff and their employers. It has a further interest in promoting better understanding between the police service and the Muslim community.
