Operation Falcon

Falcon is a Thames Valley Police operation to tackle drugs and drug-related crime across Thames Valley.

Crime and drugs are heavily linked. Around three-quarters of crack and heroin users say that they commit crime to feed their habit. Drugs make people’s lives a misery.

Falcon aims to:

• Deal with Class A drug dealing.
• Reduce drug-driven crime, violence and disorder.
• Enhance treatment opportunities for drug users or addicts.

Dr. Shona Morrison, Thames Valley Police drugs coordinator, said: “Falcon spells out our long-term, dedicated approach to drugs.

“Across the Force, the operation has produced some excellent results – premises that were being used for drug dealing or production have been shut. We have also broken drug networks and made sure that people received help if they needed it.”

Who is involved?

Falcon sees police work hand-in-hand with key partner organisations across Thames Valley. These include: councils, community safety partnerships, drug and alcohol action teams (DAATs), youth offending teams (YOTs), Crimestoppers, housing associations, and Primary Care Trusts (PCTs).

How does it work?

• Executing drug warrants across the Force area.
• Stop and search.
• Patrolling known ‘hotspots’.
• Conducting high-visibility, intelligence-led operations.
• Putting together court cases against those people who are arrested, to make sure that they receive maximum prison sentences.
• Falcon is often supported by the Force’s Roads Policing department.
• Work continues to aid the referral of drug users into treatment.
• Information and intelligence sharing between the partner organisations involved in Falcon.

Information given confidentially to Crimestoppers is passed onto the police anonymously. One anonymous call from a member of the public once led to drugs worth £3.5 million being seized in a single raid in Thames Valley.
