Community and diversity officers

Community and diversity officers (CaDOs) build links with the diverse communities in Thames Valley.

They also address issues affecting those communities and advise the Force if there are community tensions in order that they can be resolved as soon as possible.

CaDOs can advise you on the nine strands of diversity: age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex (gender), and sexual orientation.

What do CaDOs do?

Their role includes:

  • Identifying communities who are at risk of discrimination and victimisation.
  • Understanding the fabric of individual communities.
  • Actively engaging with vulnerable communities – developing and maintaining relationships.
  • Providing reassurance and promoting community cohesion.
  • Acting as a pivotal link between the police and community. Identifying community tensions early to allow an appropriate police response.
  • Speaking at community meetings and religious events.
