Two men have been jailed for five months each for carrying out a burglary at the Oxford Union earlier this year.
Marrion Cobraretti, aged 38, of Toot Hill Butts, and Richard Mitchell, aged 36, of no fixed abode, were jailed at Oxford Magistrates’ Court today (1/5), after admitting a charge of burglary, following the incident on Wednesday 18 January.
The two men walked into the Union building in Frewin Court and made their way into an office, where they stole a laptop and a camera.
Investigating officer PC George Atkinson, of the burglary team at Local CID in Oxford, said: “I am pleased with the sentence given by the court today which will prevent these two men committing any further offences.
“The victim in this case was a student and as a result of the theft she lost hundreds of hours of work which wasn’t backed up.
“I would encourage all students to back up their work as often as possible, as they face losing it if they should ever become the unlucky victim of theft.”
