Abandoned vehicles

Local councils are responsible for removing abandoned vehicles.

This is one of the issues that police do not deal with, so please report abandoned vehicles to the local council for the area in which the vehicle has been abandoned.

Report an abandoned vehicle

You can report an abandoned vehicle through the Directgov website (opens new window).

The council will pass details of all abandoned vehicles to the police, so we can check whether or not the vehicle has been stolen.

If an abandoned vehicle is causing a potential traffic hazard

If a vehicle has been abandoned in a place where it is likely to cause a potential traffic hazard, please call your local police station. For example, if a vehicle has been abandoned on a fast-moving road.

For more details on what your local council can do about abadoned vehicles, view the Directgov - Abandoned cars information (opens new window).
