Local priorities

The following priorities have been identified by the community and the police:

Protecting vulnerable people in our community - we will endeavour to prevent abuse and neglect by early and effective interventions and by the effective sharing of information with the relevant partner agencies.

Reducing levels of anti social behaviour - we will continue to work with our partners and the community to intervene as early as possible when instances of antisocial behaviour arise, including managing persistent offenders and locations. Where necessary we will also use legislative measures such as antisocial behaviour contracts and dispersal orders to influence offender behaviour.

Reducing violence – The Wokingham Police area remains a safe place to live, work and visit. We will continue to focus on alcohol related violence, recognising that education, prevention and robust policing are key factors in reducing crime. We will share information with other agencies to focus intervention in problem areas in order to minimise repeat victimisation.

Tackling substance misuse - we will actively support prevention initiatives and activities that will reduce alcohol and drug abuse / misuse. We will continue to concentrate our educational efforts on informing young people of the risks involved in taking illegal drugs and psychoactive substances (legal highs). Our enforcement activity will focus on disrupting the supply of illegal drugs into the local area.

Making our roads safer – working with our partners and the community we will continue to participate in initiatives to promote good driver behaviour and continue to target speeding and inappropriate driving particularly around schools, within communities and around accident hotspots.

These are being dealt with by your neighbourhood policing team in partnership with residents and other agencies. Progress will be reported in the Neighbourhood updates.
