Two men from Milton Keynes have been sentenced to 18-months in prison after pleading guilty to robbing a taxi driver.
Daniel David Harris, aged 22, from Crispin Road, Bradville and Lee Phillip Hollowell, aged 21, from Chester Close, Bletchley were sentenced at Huntingdon Crown Court on Wednesday (20/5).
On 23 January 2009 in the early hours of the morning, the two offenders booked a taxi to take them from Bletchley to Bradville. When they arrived at their destination, Daniel Harris grabbed the taxi driver from behind and held him while Lee Hollowell repeatedly punched the driver. They then stole approximately £20 in change from the driver. The offenders then got out of the taxi and the victim drove off and called the police. Within hours of the robbery, police had arrested both the offenders and they were charged with the robbery later that day.
Det Insp Dave Dachtler said “We hope that this sentence sends out a strong message that robbery is a very serious offence and is treated that way by the police and the courts. It’s not the value of the property stolen which makes it so serious it is the use of violence against the victim and the effects that these offences have on victims.
“Each robbery is investigated by a detective and every possible tool available to us is used to identify and bring the offenders to justice. This includes looking at patterns, using forensics, DNA profiling and CCTV. What I would say to potential offenders is; is it worth running the risk of a lengthy prison sentence for a few pounds, an iPod or mobile phone?”
