Buying a new caravan

• Ask about built-in security devices.
• All caravans manufactured since August 1997 should be electronically tagged for added security.

Buying a second-hand caravan

• Check the seller's identity.
• Make sure that the caravan's number plate matches the one on the tow car.
• Ask if the caravan is registered with the Caravan Registration and Identification Scheme (CRiS) (opens new window). If it is, you can check its history through its scheme. If it isn't and you purchase the caravan, call CRiS on 01722 411 430 and register the details.
