Secure parking
Please consider the business crime prevention advice below to make sure that the car parks at your business premises are secure.
Secure car parks should:
- Be safe to access from all buildings that they serve.
- Have good visibility, and natural surveillance.
- Be well lit, even when nobody is in your buildings. This is especially important when small numbers of people are working late and may need to cross the car park to reach their cars on their own.
- Be visible from your buildings. Make sure that landscaping or temporary obstructions do not block the view of the car park.
- Use well-installed CCTV systems and security guard patrols for extra security.
- Apply for Secured Car Park status (opens new window). This tells people that acceptable security is in place in your car park. Contact your local crime prevention design adviser for more information.
Signage
- Use clear signs to show no-parking areas and access routes.
- Clear signs, which display your company name, can direct genuine visitors to your reception area.
- Signs help staff to challenge people who are found in private areas of the site.
- If security measures are in operation at your business premises, use signs to communicate this to visitors.
