• Use security and forensic marking to mark metal goods. Security and forensic marking products can combat the theft of metals. They can be used on property that is exposed to the elements, such as lead roofs. When applying security marking to roofs, appropriate safety precautions identified from risk assessment should be followed.
• Display in a prominent position warning notices which tell potential thieves that security marking is being used.
• Consider using a CCTV system.
• Consider installing intruder alarm protection to external roof areas and any scaffolding. Use equipment that works well outside. Wire-free movement detectors may be the best option when considering the protection of heritage property.
