Use scaffolding safely
Before you use scaffolding, please consider the following:
- Advise the local police of what you are doing. Call 101, the Thames Valley Police non-emergency number.
- Try to only erect scaffolding where it is needed for a particular phase of work.
- Corrugated iron sheeting or solid timber boarding should be bolted to the base of the scaffolding to a height of 3.5 metres to deter climbers.
- Remove ladders to a secure place at the end of each day.
- Erect ‘Heras’ fence panels around the work site at a height of at least two metres.
- Only hold enough roofing material for that day’s work on site.
- Ask local people to keep an eye on the property.
- Consider using security patrols or manned guarding. This should be undertaken by either National Security Inspectorate (opens new window) (known as both NSI and NACOSS) or British Security Industry Association (BSIA) (opens new window) approved and licensed security personnel.
