Burghfield neighbourhood update
Update for January
Here is the latest neighbourhood update for Burghfield
January
New Speed Detection Kit
Thanks to funding from Burghfield Parish Council a new handheld speed gun has been purchased and will be operated locally by Thames Valley Police officers. Speeding has become an issue on a number of rural roads in the area. These locations will be targeted with an enforcement programme which will begin this month. Please ensure that you obey local speed limits which are in place to ensure the safety of both road users and pedestrians.
Parish Visits – Diary Dates
The neighbourhood team will be visiting Mortimer, Burghfield, Sulhamstead, Wokefield, Beech Hill, Mortimer and Padworth parishes during February. Make a diary note for Saturday February 7. Attendance times and locations will be posted on parish notice boards. We will be happy to discuss any local issues with you. There will also be the opportunity to learn more about setting up a Neighbourhood Watch Scheme in your street plus crime prevention advice. Look out for the mobile police station on the day.
This Can Be Avoided!
Please ensure that you do not leave valuables in your vehicle. Thieves target laptops, satnavs and MP3 players. Please also ensure that any dashboard or windscreen fixing equipment for these devices is also removed. A few moments thought can save much personal inconvenience and vehicle damage
Graffiti – It’s Not Art
Graffiti that is sprayed onto public and private premises is certainly not misplaced art, it is in fact criminal damage which is both costly and time consuming to remove. If you witness a person damaging property in this way please call us via the 24-hour non emergency on 0845 8 505 505.
Graffiti “tags” are recorded and photographed. Local audits are conducted to advise West Berkshire Streetcare team of recent damage, for the attention of their removal teams.
Neighbourhood Watch Mortimer Area- Volunteer Required
The Mortimer Area NHW Scheme is seeking a volunteer to assist in coordinating all schemes in the parish. You will be working with an established coordinator and will be required to commit about 6 hours per month and attend local scheme meetings from time to time.
Some previous administrative experience would be useful and access to a PC is an essential. You will also work closely with the neighbourhood team who will be based at the Mortimer Police Office on Victoria Road.
Currently we are seeking to increase the number of schemes locally and that would be an important part of your job. This is an interesting role that will see you working not only with Thames Valley Police but the local village community.
Application forms will be available in Mortimer Library, McColls and Budgens.
