MK Rural West neighbourhood update

Update for July

Here is the latest Rural West neighbourhood update from Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) Rob Dabnor

The total number of reported crimes in the Rural North villages (Hanslope, Haversham, Castlethorpe and Little Linford) for the period from 1 June 2010 to 24 June 2010 was five; this is decrease of 21 reported crimes during the same period last year, when a total of 26 crimes were reported. This is a significant reduction in such a short space of time.

The Neighbourhood Action Group (NAG) currently has three priorities which are: Speeding/traffic, dog fouling and parking.

Speeding: Community Speedwatch is a traffic monitoring scheme coordinated by Thames Valley Police in partnership with local councils and other stakeholders, but managed and run by neighbourhood teams and community volunteers. Deployments across the Rural West have now started.

Dog Fouling: The Neighbourhood Policing Team have been doing a schools education presentation at the schools in Rural West to explain the rules regarding dog fouling, Hanslope School has already had its visit whilst Castlethorpe and Haversham will be canvassed next. Also it has been proposed that the Rural neighbourhoods trial dog bins for the next six months, after this period the situation will be accessed as to the usage of the new bins and whether it has had any bearing on the problem. Reconditioned bins are being obtained for possible purchase with collection being funded by the local parish councils.

Parking: There has been little change with regards to parking, although officers in the area continue to monitor and apprehend offenders where necessary. Residents are reminded that the Highway Code tells you not to park partially or wholly on the pavement unless signs permit it. Parking on the pavement can obstruct and seriously inconvenience pedestrians, people in wheelchairs, the visually impaired and people with prams or pushchairs or opposite or within 10 metres (32 feet) of a junction, except in an authorised parking space.

Anti-Social Behaviour is also being addressed as a possible new priority the rural west villages, however anti-social behaviour has decresed recently. We ask all residents to report instances whilst they are happening to police on the non emergency number.

Two people have been reported for having a dog dangerously out of control in separate incidents and will be summoned to court.

The next NAG will be held on 14 September 2010 at 7:30pm and the location will be at Hanslope village hall.

If you would like to find out more about the NAG please go to: www.safermk.com or contact the neighbourhood team.
