Congestion may be caused by a collision, a road incident, road works, or the movement of abnormal loads.

If there's a road collision or incident

When traffic is congested due to a road accident or incident, Thames Valley Police works with local media to keep road users up-to-date with any road problems. Road users should tune in to a local radio station to monitor problems and plan alternative routes.

Our Roads Policing department is always seeking to improve traffic flow on Thames Valley roads. Our traffic management officers work alongside local authorities to improve road layouts, and advise on planned improvements, new laws and construction, taking into consideration safety and traffic flow.
