Driver Improvement Scheme

The Thames Valley Driver Improvement Scheme (DIS) provides drivers who have been involved in a road crash/incident with a chance to receive further driver training.

95% of all road crashes are due to human error, which underlines the importance of driver improvement schemes.

The DIS is managed and delivered by Drive Tech (UK) plc. To attend a DIS course, the following criteria must be met:

• You have been involved in a road crash or incident where the police have investigated the circumstances and feel that you have a case to answer in court, or the police feel that you would benefit from attending on a voluntary self-referral basis.
• You must possess a full driving licence.
• You must book your course within a maximum of 21 days since your offence.
• You must take the course within two months (60 days) of booking.
• You must complete the course within five months (150 days) since your offence.

The DIS aims to:

• Improve attitudes and driving behaviour.
• Reduce the occurence of crashes and injury to drivers who have been identified as being at risk.
• Reduce the incidence of re-offending among a client group of 'due care and attention' offenders.
