Local priorities

The following priorities have been identified by the community and the police:

1. Drug usage - The issue of drug supply and use within Buckingham and surrounding villages continues to be the team’s top priority. There has been a rise in young people using Mephadrone (MCAT) which side effects include a sense of euphoria and alertness. The negative side effects are dependent on the level of purity and can lead to rapid weight loss, blistering of internal organs and skin to name but a few. The team continue to work on gathering intelligence surrounding the use and supply of such substances and urge any concerned parents, family members and friends of those suspected of using illegal substances to contact the local Buckingham District Policing Team. In the past month there have been a number of arrests made in relation to the possession and supply of illegal substances such as cannabis, cocaine and mephadrone. As a result of the hard work by core response officers and the Neighbourhood Team there has been a rise of 113% in this area of crime compared to the same four week time period of last year.

2. Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB / Noise). - ASB patrols are regularly conducted in areas identified by residents, especially around the weekends. The town officers are actively seeking to disrupt groups in the Skate Park, Candleford Court and town centre who appear to be causing some issues for residents and traders during the evenings. The team is also aware of historical locations within the town centre and outskirts that has been susceptible to ASB and will be patrolling these areas. If you have any information please conduct us on 101

3.Burglary to dwellings  - Operation Arctic is coming to a close soon and over the period of three months it has been in commencement there has been a dramatic fall in the number of burglaries reported to police. In the past four weeks these figures have decreased by 80% overall compared to the same four week period last year. The team continue to conduct high visible patrols of areas identified as being vulnerable as well as other areas within the Buckingham District. Anybody with information surrounding people handling stolen goods or being responsible for the thefts and burglaries should contact the local Neighbourhood Police Team.

These are being dealt with by your neighbourhood policing team in partnership with residents and other agencies. Progress will be reported in the Neighbourhood updates.
