Local priorities - 'You said, We did'
The following priorities have been identified by the community and the police:
You said: Drug use/activity in public places
The main issue areas are Spiceball and Peoples Park along with some business car parks after closing time.
We have been regularly patrolling these areas, particularly during the evenings. We have also been engaging with the schools to highlight 'legal highs'. A leaflet on Nitrous Oxide awareness has been circulated among many schools and parents using the parentmail scheme.
You said: Begging
We are currently receiveing a number of complaints regarding begging in the Town centre.
We are working with our partner agencies and offering the relevant support to those we have engaged with. We are currentlylooking into managing the issue longer term.
You said: Parking
The key issue areas are currently High Street, Calthorpe Road, Albert Street (parking on pavements), Broad Street (parking in disabled bays)
This month the team has issued 29 fixed penalty notices to offending vehicles in these key areas. We will maintain regular patrols in these areas.
These are being dealt with by your neighbourhood policing team in partnership with residents and other agencies. Progress will be reported in the Neighbourhood updates.
