Superintendent Robin Rickard - Local Policing Area commander - Reading
Superintendent Robin Rickard took over the role of Reading's Local Police Area Commander in July 2014. Robin’s previous role as the Commander for West Berkshire was a post that he thoroughly enjoyed, and he is delighted to be moving to the neighbouring police area of Reading and taking on the policing challenges that a large and diverse town gives.
Robin joined Thames Valley Police in July 1989 and spent the first 15 years of his service in a variety of roles in Oxfordshire, predominantly Oxford City up to the rank of Inspector. In 2004 he was responsible for managing the Force-wide pilot project, the National Reassurance Policing Programme, which was later rolled out as Neighbourhood Policing to every part of Thames Valley Police. As a Superintendent he worked at the headquarters as the Force lead for diversity before taking up the role of Area Commander for West Berkshire.
Robin is an experienced and accredited Public Order, Firearms and Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Commander, and commands many events such as football matches, festivals, high-profile protests and spontaneous demonstrations.
