Lambourn neighbourhood update
Update for February
Here is the latest neighbourhood update for Lambourn from Neighbourhood Specialist Officer, PC Claire Drewitt:
We hope everybody coped with the weather conditions in the first couple of weeks of this month; it was certainly difficult at times.
Our Hare Coursing priority has been worked on with several operations targeting offenders. We have not made any arrests this month. We have had reports of night time activity; this consists of criminal damage to perimeter fences where it has been cut allowing access to the grounds of farming land.
Hungerford neighbourhood team ran an operation until the early hours of the morning to target those involved. It may be they are poaching rather than hare coursing but there does appear to be links between day and night activities. Many of the landowners are aware and have our details to calls us to report any suspicious activity they see.
Our speeding priority in Great Shefford has been worked on with a Speed Indication Device (SID) operation which was conducted on Thursday 21 January at 10am. It was disappointing to see excessive speeds being recorded. We will be sending out letters in future to those identified as speeding advising them of the risks and dangers. We are also running a speed enforcement operation in February to enforce excess speeding in the area by way of a fixed penalty ticket.
As the weather warms up and the motorbikes start using the A338 again we intend to run weekend operations against the excess speed that the local residents report as they go through the village and approach to it.
Our drugs priority, this month, perhaps in part due to the weather conditions has seen a continuation of the downward trend for associated anti-social behaviour, we have not found any youths out with drugs although some alcohol has been seized. We will monitor this situation but it is good to be able to report the trend going in the right direction.
Although the figures for the Lambourn area show an increase in all crime over the last three months compared to the same period the previous year, we would also point out that since the start of 2009 the trend overall is downwards with less crime now than at the start of the year.
We have a street briefing booked for Lambourn Place/Essex Place on Sunday 14 March at 6.30pm, put the date in your diary and come along and meet the team. These briefings are an opportunity to raise any issues or concerns you may have.
If you have any information on the above or would like to speak to a member of the team, please ring in on 0845 8 505 505 or call in to Hungerford police station, Monday – Friday between 9am – 1pm.
