You can buy replacements from a registered supplier. Find one near you at gov.uk.
Criminals sometimes steal or copy number plates to use on other vehicles. This is called cloning number plates. They do it to avoid fines or commit crimes without being traced.
You might not find out until you receive a fine or penalty notice you didn’t cause.
