Every neighbourhood in the Thames Valley area has a dedicated neighbourhood policing team that works together with the local community and partners to: reduce crime and incidents, bring more offenders to justice, protect the vulnerable and tackle violence against women and girls and improve victim service and public confidence.
Neighbourhood policing teams are led by senior police officers and include police officers, Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs), police staff, police support volunteers and the Special Constabulary.
They aim to make communities safer through an approach that is focussed on visibility, engagement, problem solving and community resilience.
You can receive regular updates on local information and incidents in or around your area by signing up to Thames Valley Alert.
Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG)
Issued 27 June 2024
Over the last couple of months the team has been building on our knowledge to support the work we are doing. Our PCSO attended the VAWG conference getting great insight to ways the team could use preventive tools to deal with issues within our town. Our team has also attended training to increase our knowledge around spotting predatory behaviour during our Night Time Economy. As well as being lucky enough to get training from our friends at “reducing the risk” around domestic abuse and how we can support their work in helping victims.
We continue with high visibility patrol around the town centre on the weekends working closely with our local license premises and CCTV system to keep those safe on nights out.

Retail theft and financial scams
Issued 27 June 2024
Over the last couple of months the team have been taking part in plain clothes and high visibility patrols of well know retail hotspots for theft. We have recently been able to reunite the owner of the phone they left behind at the scene of a shoplifting and of course deal with the offence at the same time.
We are looking to host an event with our local retailers to make them aware of a new system, called DISC which has been endorsed by the Police and Crime Commissioner giving the stores a better way to report thefts and prevent offending by knowing who their offenders are.
As well as using the software PND facial recognition to identify repeat offenders so they can be dealt with via the criminal justice system.

Anti-social behaviour (ASB)
Issued 27 June 2024
We have been getting to grips with our new policing App which identifies “hotspot” areas that have the biggest reports of ASB so we can conduct pro-active and targeted patrols in that area at the peak times.
The team have been completing operations in the town centre to deal with the ASB reported resulting in positive stop searches conducted with drugs and offensive weapons being seized. The police are looking to engage with those individuals causing the most issues within the town and taking actions to disrupt this behaviour and look at any diversion available.
Individuals have been issued Community Protection Notices due to their involvement in ASB and the impact it has caused those around them. We have been enforcing our closure order to keep those vulnerable people safe, as well as putting a persistent offender who breaches their order in front of the courts.
We have been holding our have your say meetings within the community for your feedback and if you have not been check out our social media or sign up to TV Alerts to find out when our next one is.
