Active Communities Campaign

Our Active Communities campaign encourages more people to get active and involved in policing matters and issues affecting communities in Thames Valley.

There are lots of opportunities for members of the public of all ages and backgrounds to get involved and work with us to keep our communities safe.

Community Forums: Open to all members of the public, Community Forums are held both online and in person at times to suit everyone. They let you have a say on what matters most to you, enabling us to work together to solve issues in your area.

Independent Advisory Groups: Independently chaired by members of the community, IAGs meet four times a year and help shape the way we work and the service we deliver.

Volunteers: From accountants to app designers and translators to forensics support, Thames Valley has over 500 Police Support Volunteers who are all ages, come from different backgrounds and have wide-ranging skills.

Special Constables: Our volunteer police officers play an important role in policing Thames Valley - working closely alongside regular colleagues to keep Thames Valley safe.

Police Cadets: Thames Valley Police has Cadet Units based across the force, with around 250 13 to 18-year-olds volunteering their time to learn about policing and support their local communities.

Cadet Leaders: Our Cadet Leaders help inspire and support our young Police Cadets, developing their skills and confidence. They assist with weekly meetings as well as supporting activities and events in the local community.

Mini Police: Introduced in Reading for children in Year 5 and 6, the scheme gives younger children the opportunity to gain an insight and get involved in policing.
