Thames Valley Police is releasing an E-fit image as part of an appeal for witnesses following an assault in Yarnton.
The incident occurred at around 4.30pm on 3 March this year on Cassington Road.
The victim, a man in his forties, saw the offender having an altercation with a woman and stopped in his vehicle to ask if she was alright.
The offender approached the victim’s vehicle and punched him in the face.
The victim sustained a fractured eye socket and was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital before being discharged.
Investigating officer, PC Victoria Channon based at Witney police station, said: “This was an unprovoked attack, where the victim has been trying to do the right thing by looking out for a woman he thought was in distress, caused by the offender.
“He has now received life changing injuries for his efforts to protect what he perceived to be a vulnerable female.
