A number of Thames Valley Police officers have been commended for outstanding work in Milton Keynes.

The most recent Milton Keynes Commander’s Commendation Ceremony provided an opportunity for Local Policing Area Commander Superintendent Marc Tarbit to highlight the dedication and commitment of officers.

Among the award winners were PC Emily Sivyer, PC Daisy Barton and member of the public Martin Palmieri.

On 26 January this year, Mr Palmieri phoned the police as there was a woman on the wrong side of the railings trying to jump off a bridge.

The woman was very distressed and Mr Palmieri was struggling to hold her back.

PC Sivyer and PC Barton had just returned to the police station and were about to finish their shift.

Without hesitation, the pair deployed themselves to the bridge, where the woman was still being held up by Mr Palmieri.

The officers helped to prevent her from falling and spoke with her as she was clearly in distress.

Another member of the public and other officers then arrived to help them bring the woman back over the railings and to safety.

The quick actions of PC Sivyer, PC Barton and Martin Palmieri saved the life of the young woman.

At the ceremony, Superintendent Tarbit commended PC Sivyer and PC Barton for acting with courage and compassion. He added that the selflessness and professionalism they demonstrated embody the principles of policing that our communities want to see.

Mr Palmieri was commended by Supt Tarbit for acting with courage, bravery and compassion and that his actions were an exceptional example of good citizenship.

The woman that they had helped had proactively contacted Thames Valley Police after the incident and said: “She (PC Sivyer) made me feel safe and a lot less anxious. I haven’t stopped thinking about wanting to thank her since the incident. She saved my life.”

In total 25 commendations were given out at the ceremony for a variety of different achievements and outstanding work across the Milton Keynes area including exceptional performance, exceptional display of force values, acting with courage and compassion and outstanding investigation.
