Following an investigation by Thames Valley Police, six men have now been arrested in connection with an incident at a public house in Whitely, Reading.

Officers were called to a disorder at around 11.34pm yesterday (28/10) at the Sportsman public house, where two men suffered serious injuries after it’s believed they were both stabbed.

The men, both in their twenties have been taken to hospital where they remain in a serious but stable condition.

Officers investigating have now made six arrests in total in connection with this incident. The men have all been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remain in custody at this time.

A Section 60 order, which allows greater Stop and Search powers for officers in the Whitley area (see map) is in place until 5.20am tomorrow (30/10) but will be reviewed and extended if necessary.

Members of the public will see an increased police presence while we continue to investigate, and a scene is in place at Shinfield Road.

Senior investigating officer, Detective Inspector James Humphries, said: “We are continuing our investigation following this incident in which two men have received serious injuries.

“We have made six arrests in connection and we are carrying out extensive enquiries.

“We are appealing for any witnesses to please come forward and are asking anyone who was in the area of the Shinfield Road last night that has dash-cam or CCTV footage to please review it and contact us through our online portal page if it shows anything relevant.

“Or if you saw anything or have other information that maybe connected to this incident please call 101 quoting reference 43220486197.

“Members of the public will see more officers in the area and if they have any concerns they should raise them to one of our uniformed officers.

“If you do not wish to speak to the police please call the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
