A Section 60 order in place in Newbury has been extended for a further 24 hours.
The order which allows officers greater powers to Stop and Search, was put in place following a reported incident of a group carrying weapons in The Nightingales and Greenham Road areas on Friday (9/9) night.
An investigation has been ongoing into this incident which continues. A 19-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of affray. She has been bailed while our enquiries are ongoing.
The Section 60 covers the areas of (also shown in map): A339, Racecourse Road, New Road, St Mary’s Church, Pinchington Lane, Newbury.
The order is extended for a further 24 hours from 5pm today (11/9).
Superintendent Amy Clements, said: “I have extended the Section 60 order, to provide ongoing reassurance to the community, reduce the risk of disorder, and to target those who seek to carry weapons.
“Members of the public will see an increased presence of our officers on patrol within the Section 60 area, and I would encourage members of the public to please raise any concerns or provide any information they may have to one of our officers.
