Man sentenced for non-recent sex offences – Oxfordshire

Following a Thames Valley Police investigation, a man has been sentenced for non-recent sex offences.

Yesterday (5/4), Kieran Whiting aged 38, of Champion Way, Oxford has been sentenced to 16 years imprisonment and an extended four year licence at Oxford Crown Court.

Whiting was found guilty of 10 counts including sexual assault, sexual assault of a child by penetration, causing/inciting a to engage in sexual activity and taking indecent photographs of a child, at a trial in January.

The offences occurred over a period of time between 2016 and 2020, in Oxfordshire.

Specialist Investigator, Mark Hewston, of the Child Abuse Investigation Unit, based at Cowley Police station, said: “Whiting has never made any admissions in relation to his offending. From the outset he has sought to frustrate and undermine the investigation.

“It is only through the resilience and determination of the victim, and her desire to see these matters through, that he has now been convicted of these very serious offences.

“I must make mention of the very dedicated and specialist team within the Crown Prosecution Service. We worked closely with the CPS throughout the investigation and this conviction would not have been possible without them. Lauren Sales was the prosecuting barrister in this case. I would particularly like to highlight her dedication and commitment in bringing these matters to a successful conclusion.

“I hope that Whiting can now reflect upon the suffering and misery that he has brought to those involved. In one of my meetings with the victim she told me how he had stolen and destroyed her childhood.”
