Following a Thames Valley Police investigation, a man has been jailed for an assault in Windsor.
Daniel Brophy, aged 26, of Trumper Way, Slough, was sentenced to a year and two months in prison at Reading Crown Court on 5 January.
He pleaded guilty to one count of Section 20 wounding/inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent at the same court on 8 November last year.
At around 3.10am on 27 March last year, Brophy ran at the victim, a man in his twenties, and hit him once in the face in Goswell Hill, knocking him to the floor and causing his head to hit the ground.
The victim suffered a fractured skull, a broken nose and a cut to the back of his head.
Brophy was arrested the next day (28 March) and charged on 8 October last year.
Investigating officer Detective Constable Will Holbrook, of Maidenhead CID, said: “This was an unprovoked assault on the victim, who was enjoying his night out.
“The level of violence used by the offender caused serious injuries to the victim, which he continues to recover from but may suffer from for the rest of his life.
“The dangers of ‘one punch’ attacks cannot be under estimated and Daniel Brophy now has a significant sentence in which to assess the impact of his actions.”
