Following a Thames Valley Police investigation, a man has been sentenced for assaulting a police officer in Beaconsfield.
Cameron Britnell, aged 20, of Oakwood, Flackwell Heath, pleaded guilty to one count of assault by beating of an emergency worker in a hearing at High Wycombe Magistrates’ Court on Friday (6/1).
He was made subject to a Community Order and must complete 135 hour of unpaid work.
He was also ordered to pay compensation to the victim.
At around 10.30pm on 20 August, officers were called to The Hope & Champion Pub at Beaconsfield Service Station following reports of assaults taking place.
When officers arrive, Britnell attempted to make an escape, but was located hiding in a bush.
He was uncompliant and violent and kicked one officer to the head. PC Michael Mayer-Smith suffered a minor injury, but did not require hospital treatment.
He was subsequently arrested and charged the following day (21/8).
Investigating officer PC George Ward, based at Amersham police station, said: “I am pleased that Britnell has been brought before the courts and sentenced for this offence.
“He can count himself fortunate not to have received a more significant sentence, or even a custodial sentence, and I hope that Britnell will learn from his actions and the resulting criminal record.
“Members of the public called police for help and during attendance, an officer was subsequently assaulted.
“This is wholly unacceptable behaviour. Our officers work tirelessly for the public and we will never tolerate any form of assault on emergency workers, whose job it is to protect the public.”
