Man sentenced to prison for non-fatal strangulation and other offences – Ascot

Following an investigation by Thames Valley Police, a man has been jailed after he was convicted of non-fatal strangulation, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and criminal damage.

Todd Allison, aged 35, of Old Kenton Lane, London, pleaded guilty to the offences on 3 January this year in a hearing at Reading Crown Court.

Returning to the same court on Friday (16/8) for sentencing, he was sentenced to a total of two years’ imprisonment.

Between 1am and 7am on 4 December 2023, the victim, a woman aged in her thirties attended an event with Allison at Ascot racecourse.

Allison became agitated at the event and became aggressive towards the victim.

On leaving the event, Allison continued his anger at the victim.

They stayed in a car together for around seven hours, and during this period, Allison became violent, strangling, head-butting and punching the victim, who made multiple attempts to leave the car.

It wasn’t until a member of the public noticed them and asked the victim if she was okay, that the victim was able to ask this person to call the police.

The victim sustained a fractured nose and swelling of the eye.

Allison was arrested and charged with the offences on 5 December 2023.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Freya Deeley, who worked on the Domestic Abuse Investigation Unit, said: “I am pleased that Allison has now received a custodial sentence as a result of his unacceptable behaviour against his victim.

“He subjected his victim to hours of verbal and physical abuse. The offending only stopped when a member of the public spotted them in the car, and I would like to thank that person for contacting the police.

“I would also like to pay tribute to the victim, who has shown patience and dignity while we investigated these offences. I hope that the fact Allison has now been sentenced to prison will allow the victim to move on with her life.

“Thames Valley Police is relentless in its pursuit and disruption of perpetrators of violence against women and girls.

“For victims of domestic abuse, coming forward and reporting it is incredibly hard, but we urge anyone who has been subjected to these terrible crimes, to speak up.  We will believe you and support you throughout the process.”
