Thames Valley Police’s Major Crime Unit has launched a murder investigation following an incident in Garsington on Sunday (15/12).
Officers were called by South Central Ambulance Service at 10.07pm on Sunday (15/12) after the victim, a man aged in his seventies, was found with a serious head injury at a property on Oxford Road in Garsington..
He was taken to hospital for treatment, but sadly the victim has died of his injuries in hospital today (17/12).
The man’s next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers. Our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.
A 40-year-old man, from Garsington, was originally arrested on Sunday on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent and assault on a police officer. He has now been further arrested on suspicion of murder.
Investigating officer Detective Inspector Alice Broad, of the Major Crime Unit, said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the victim at this extremely distressing time.
“We are still in the very early stages of this investigation and have made an arrest in connection with this incident.
“I understand that incidents such as this are tragic events and I recognise the concern this will cause in the local community. However, we are confident that there is no wider risk to the community and that the victim and offender are known to each other.
“There is a scene-watch in place at the address while the investigation continues.
“This is likely to remain in place for some time, and I would urge anybody who has any concerns to please speak to any of our officers at the scene.
“I would also ask anybody who believes that they may have any information that may assist this investigation to contact Thames Valley Police by calling us on 101 or reporting online, quoting reference 43240606678.
“Alternatively, if you don’t wish to speak directly with police, you can call the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
