Man sentenced to prison for weapons offence and criminal damage – Slough

A man who was in possession of a Zombie-style knife and committed criminal damage in Slough has been jailed.

Dennie Ryan, aged 21, of Moor Furlong in Slough, pleaded guilty to a count each of criminal damage and possession of a bladed article in a public place in a hearing at Reading Crown Court on Monday (23/12).

In the same hearing, Ryan was sentenced to a total of 18 months’ imprisonment and made subject to a Serious Violence Reduction Order, meaning he can be stopped and searched by police at any time upon his release from prison.

On 18 September this year, officers saw Ryan walking along Moor Furlong, and he then started to run from police while in possession of a Zombie knife.

He jumped into a residential garden, seeking refuge inside the resident’s home, gaining access via an unlocked patio door.

The resident was unknown to Ryan.

He then fled the scene, leaving the knife behind at the property.

In trying to evade police, Ryan cut off his police-issued tag, which officers later found discarded.

Ryan handed himself into police three weeks later.

Inspector Peter Lawman, based at Slough police station, said: “We are committed to removing dangerous weapons from our communities and as a result of this incident; a Zombie knife is no longer on our streets, which will make Slough a safer place.

“Ryan was in possession of this knife, and has been given a-year-and-a-half in prison as a result of his decision to carry this weapon.

“Through Operation Deter, you are more likely to find yourself charged and imprisoned for carrying such weapons, and we will never tire at pursuing those who are in possession of knives and other weapons.

“Ryan will now serve a custodial sentence as a result of his decision, and I hope that he uses his time in prison to reflect on his actions.”
