Murder investigation launched – Aylesbury

Thames Valley Police’s Major Crime Unit has launched a murder investigation following an incident in Aylesbury yesterday (3/1).

Officers were called by South Central Ambulance Service at 4.20pm yesterday (3/1) after the victim, a man aged in his seventies, was found with serious injuries at a block of flats on Silverdale Close in Aylesbury.

The victim sadly passed away at the scene.

The man’s next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers. Our thoughts are with the family at this difficult time.

Formal identification and other coronial processes will be undertaken in due course.

An 80-year-old man from Aylesbury has been arrested on suspicion of murder. He remains in police custody at this time.

Senior investigating officer Detective Inspector Nick Hind, of the Major Crime Unit, said: “Firstly, I would like to wish my condolences to the family of the man who sadly died following this incident.

“We have launched a murder investigation and I recognise the concern this will cause in the local community. However, we have made an arrest and are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident and two parties are known to each other.

“Extensive enquiries are ongoing into this incident and a scene will remain on for some time while our investigation is ongoing, we would apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused.

“We are confident that there is no wider risk to the community at this time, and I would urge anybody who has any concerns to please speak to any of our officers at the scene.
