Appeal for witnesses after cyclist injured in collision – Reading

Thames Valley Police is appealing for witnesses after a cyclist suffered serious injuries in Reading in the early hours of this morning (July 10).

Police were called to the incident, on the A4 Bath Road near the junction for Liebenrood Road, just after 1.20am today, with the ambulance service already at the scene.

The cyclist, a man in his 50s from Reading, suffered a serious head injury and has been taken to hospital, where he remains receiving treatment.

From our initial enquiries, it is believed a car collided with the cyclist, but then left the scene. A search of the area did not identify any vehicles which may have been involved.

The road was closed for around four hours while we conducted some initial enquiries.

Investigating officer Sergeant Matthew Cadmore, from the Roads Policing Unit, said: “As this early stage of our investigation, we are keeping an open mind in relation to the circumstances.

“The cyclist has suffered serious injuries, and his bicycle shows signs of significant damage, and it is important anyone who can help us understand what has happened makes contact as soon as possible.

“If you are the driver of a vehicle which may have collided with someone on the Bath Road, then I would urge you to make contact with us immediately.

“I also want to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or who has any dash cam or other footage from the area between 12.45am and 1.30am.
