Appeal for witnesses following assault – Reading

Thames Valley Police is appealing for witnesses following a serious assault in Reading.

At around 7.50pm yesterday (7/5), a man in his thirties was attacked in the Audley Street area of Reading and the offenders made off.

He was taken to hospital with lacerations to his head, cheek and side of his face. He has since been discharged.

Armed response officers attended the Royal Berkshire Hospital to safeguard the victim.

A 33-year-old man from Southall was arrested on suspicion of section 18 grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and he remains in police custody at this time.

Detective Inspector Stuart Streeter, said: “We are carrying out extensive enquiries into this incident.

“While we understand that this incident may increase concerns in the community, we believe this was an isolated incident and at this stage no further risks to the public have been identified.

“We are appealing for anyone who may have seen this incident or who has dash-cam, doorbell or phone footage from the area around the time that it happened, to please get in touch.
