Following an investigation by Thames Valley Police, a man has been jailed for driving offences in Earley.
Sultan Basharat, aged 37, of London Road, Reading, pleaded guilty to a count each of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving otherwise in accordance with a licence and driving with no insurance, in a hearing at Reading Crown Court on Monday (18/11).
He was subsequently jailed for two years and ten months at the same hearing.
He was also disqualified from driving for two years after he is released from prison and will need to take an extended test to regain his licence.
At around 7.15pm on 20 May this year, Basharat was driving his car, which collided with a pedestrian in Beech Lane, Earley. This incident followed an earlier dispute between the two men.
The victim, a man aged in his thirties, sustained a fractured pelvis, a head injury as well as multiple abrasions and bruises to his body.
Basharat was arrested on 24 May and was charged the following day (25/5).
Investigating officer Detective Constable Sara Di Giorgio, of Loddon Valley CID, said: “We are aware that there had been an earlier dispute between the victim and Basharat, and Basharat was driving the car that cause these injuries to the victim.
“Whatever the reasons for the earlier dispute, it is clear that Basharat’s manner of driving caused these significant injuries, and I am pleased that he has been held to account for this and will serve a prison sentence as a result.”
