Following an investigation by Thames Valley Police a man has been sentenced to 50 weeks imprisonment for shoplifting.
Charlie Pearce, aged 27, of no fixed abode, was sentenced on Monday 20 January following a hearing at Reading Magistrates’ Court.
Pearce was charged with seven offences of shoplifting, two of which were dropped. He pleaded guilty to five counts of theft from a shop at the same court at an earlier hearing.
Pearce targeted several stores in Wokingham, taking items worth hundreds of pounds. The offences took place in December 2024.
Pearce was sentenced to 50 weeks in total. 32 weeks of which was from breach of a previous suspended sentence.
Investigating officer Sergeant Nathan Hollis said: “I am pleased that Pearce has been sentenced to time in jail.
“Often shoplifting is seen as a victimless crime, however it has a detrimental impact on businesses, and causes stress to those who work within shops.
“Pearce took from these shops without any thought of the impact it might have, and was sentenced to jail on his birthday.
“Thames Valley Police will continue to investigate those who see fit to repeatedly target businesses and make sure they are brought before the courts to face justice.”
