Thames Valley Police is appealing for witnesses following a serious road traffic collision in Wantage.
At around 6.25pm yesterday (12/6), a black Ford Fiesta was involved in a collision with a pedestrian at the traffic light pedestrian crossing near The Health Centre on Mably Way, Grove.
The pedestrian, a young child, sustained serious injuries and remain in hospital at this current time.
A 37-year-old man from Wantage has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving whilst unfit through drink/drugs and driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence. He has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.
Investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Edward Crofts of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “Any collision involving a young person is particularly harrowing, but I would like to thank those that came to the aid of victim and their family at the time of the collision. This included medical staff working nearby and members of the public who stopped to assist.
“We are carrying out a thorough investigation into the circumstances of this collision, with a man being arrested at the scene on Mably Way shortly after police arriving, in attendance with paramedics from SCAS.
“I would particularly like to hear from anyone who witnessed the Black Ford Fiesta at the time of the collision or leading up to the collision from Didcot along the A417 and westbound towards Denchworth Road along Mably Way.
“If you saw either of this vehicle prior to the collision, have dash-cam footage on Mably Road or Denchworth Road who may have CCTV or doorcam footage, please come forward.”
