A targeted operation in Reading town centre, which has won the Thames Valley Police 2026 Laycock Award, is delivering significant reductions in crime, catching the offenders who drive the problem and reducing the impact on shop staff, businesses and the wider community.

Targeting illegal e-scooters & e-bikes used in an anti-social manner across the Earley area.

The Earley Neighbourhood Policing Team continue to target and disrupt the illegal use of e-scooters, e-bikes and drugs.
Key areas are being patrolled on a regular basis and officers are working closely with ASB council workers and sharing information regarding ongoing issues and persons involved.
ASB reports are being monitored and followed up on to identify offenders or persistent problems especially around Sol Joel Park, Chalfont Park, Laurel Park and Maiden Place.

The Neighbourhood Team is liaising with stores to make the staff feel safe and supported. We are working on fast time identification of suspects for shoplifting and working closely with stores to identify offenders and gather evidence as quickly as possible for early arrests. We are conducting plain clothes patrols and monitoring locations at key times to catch offenders actively stealing.
A heightened police presence in and around our most commonly targeted stores is having a positive effect in preventing and reducing theft offences.

Continuing concerns around anti-social behaviour (ASB) in Maiden Place and nearby areas.

We continue to work closely with our partners, establishments and security teams to raise awareness around appropriate behaviours.
The Neighbourhood Policing Team have also been engaging and maintaining close contact with our local community and partners to understand and address their concerns around ASB in Maiden Place and the surrounding areas.
Following reports of anti social behaviour towards local residents at Maiden Place, the Neighbourhood Policing Teams have been conducting pro-active patrols to target offenders and help address community concerns.
