Persistent disorder and shoplifting in the Parkway and Northbrook Street areas of Newbury, driven by recent reports of theft and ASB, including problem addresses linked to repeat offending.

The Newbury Neighbourhood Team has continued to take a proactive approach to tackling retail crime through a combination of high-visibility and plain-clothes patrols, strong partnerships with local retailers and store security staff, and the effective use of intelligence to identify and target repeat offenders. These sustained efforts have produced positive outcomes, with 39 arrests for shop theft offences recorded over the past ten weeks and 75 charges.

We are patrolling Victoria Park in response to recent reports from members of the public regarding anti‑social behaviour. Concerns include groups causing harassment, alarm or distress, noise nuisance and potential substance misuse. Increased visibility provides reassurance, helps prevent escalation and enables early intervention, safeguarding and evidence gathering.

The Neighbourhood Policing Team continues to maintain a visible and proactive presence across the area through regular patrols aimed at preventing crime and addressing community concerns. Officers focus their activity on key locations and peak demand periods, providing reassurance to the public, gathering local intelligence, and identifying emerging issues to enable timely and effective intervention. Officers from the Thames Valley Police mounted division recently conducted patrols through Victoria Park for an increased visible presence and deterrent for crime during the summer months.

The Neighbourhood Policing Team continues to take robust action to address the illegal and unsafe use of e-scooters. Working alongside a partner agency, officers have recently increased the patrols of Newbury Town centre with a focus around these areas to deter the use of illegal electric bikes and scooters - TVP also involved officers from the mounted division who took horses through Newbury to increase our visible presence around summer
