Every neighbourhood in the Thames Valley area has a dedicated neighbourhood policing team that works together with the local community and partners to: reduce crime and incidents, bring more offenders to justice, protect the vulnerable and tackle violence against women and girls and improve victim service and public confidence.

Neighbourhood policing teams are led by senior police officers and include police officers, Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs), police staff, police support volunteers and the Special Constabulary. 

They aim to make communities safer through an approach that is focussed on visibility, engagement, problem solving and community resilience.

    Inconsiderate and illegal riding of motorcycles and electric scooters in recreational areas along with vehicles causing issues in community car parks and near community centres in Lower Caversham. Delivery motorcycles and electric bikes on footpaths in all areas.

    Action taken:

    Key areas are being patrolled on a regular basis and officers are allocating time to target the issue committed to showing police awareness, presence and gain experience in best approach. Recent ASB surveys have shown strong public concern for the issue so NHPT time is being allocated accordingly, to dedicated duties for the issues involving both the Caversham team and resources from other areas.

    Retail crime - Identifying repeated shopliftings within Caversham, liaising with other neighbourhood teams to identify crime patterns early and arresting prolific offenders. Supporting store action where possible and providing advice on removing known offenders.

    Action taken:

    Fast time identification of suspects for shoplifting and working closely with stores to identify offenders and gather evidence for early arrests. Conducting plain clothes patrols and monitoring of locations at key times to catch offenders actively stealing. Liaising with Retail Crime Time and prioritising offenders to ensure patterns of offending are dealt with and aggressive or violent offenders are identified early on and arrested.

    Acquisitive crime, including business burglaries in Lower Caversham. Also identifying persistent, violent and prolific shoplifters.

    Action taken:

    NHPT are monitoring reports for incidents of interest or patterns of offending and monitoring known offenders for like offences such as shoplifting or theft from motor vehicles. Officers are taking ownership of investigations wherever possible and liaising with victims to ensure best possible service is delivered, golden hour enquiries are completed and evidence obtained is maximised. Officers are liaising with detectives, community leaders and staff and management to identify offenders and prioritise persistent suspects.
