Your Local Neighbourhood Policing Team
The Neighbourhood Inspector has overall responsibility for the entire neighbourhood policing team of Sergeants, Police Constables, PCSOs and police staff. They are responsible for delivering on neighbourhood policing strategies, directing the deployment of the team and developing relationships with partners and key stakeholders to enable the neighbourhood policing team to work effectively.
The Sergeant is next in command and also assists the Inspector. In addition they provide leadership in the development and supervision of the Constables and PCSOs. They too work with the community and other agencies to ensure that the concerns of the community are dealt with by the Neighbourhood Team.
Police Constables work alongside the community and partner agencies to tackle crime and issues identified by the local community. They work together with PCSOs to be a visible presence in the local area and build trust and confidence by developing a detailed understanding of the community.
This officer is a Police Community Support Officer. While having no power of arrest, the officer can attend incidents, patrol and reassure, tackle ASB and parking issues, and in Thames Valley will be deployed to deliver our Crime Attendance policy of attending to provide follow up support and contact. They too are also responsible for tackling the concerns of the community.

They play an integral part in delivering effective neighbourhood policing, providing a highly visible policing presence and building relationships with the local community as well as working to problem solve long-term neighbourhood issues.

Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) in Abingdon Town Centre
Action taken:
The team have been working with local bars and pubs to raise awareness of violence against women and girls in these areas. There is work being completed and operations planned to help make public spaces a safe and fun environment for all to enjoy. The team have worked with the community safety partnership and working towards the winter season several operations in this area will take place with other departments to help prevent any crimes against women and girls

Retail theft and financial scams in Abingdon
Action taken:
The team are working closely with the retail crime team to help identify and bring offenders to justice in regard to shoplifting in the Abingdon area. There are a small minority of offenders causing a majority of the shoplifting issues in Abingdon and with the help of the DISC and AUROR app that uses quick CCTV and statement functions for retailers including AI and ANPR we are seeing an increase in better evidence being provided by reatilers helping the team bring offenders to justice. Tesco's on Thornhill Walk, Aldi and The COOP on West St Helens street are working with the team to help solve issues within there stores and taget harden to help prevent and deter offenders.

Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) in Abingdon
Action taken:
The summer months have not seen a dramatic increase in ASB in Abingdon, the hot weather did cause some calls to the outdoor swimming pool where kids had jumped the fence afterhours. The Staff and management have had a site audit and designing out crime officers attend to help recommend changes to the site to help prevent these incidents in the future. There has been a slight increase in ASB in South Abingdon linked to vehicles around Lambrick way, which the team are aware of and patrolling to help deter and identify offenders.
